Hospitals and healthcare facilities produce large quantities of biomedical waste on a daily basis, and this must be treated with the utmost care to avoid any contamination.
Processes for managing biomedical waste can be costly and difficult to implement in medical facilities. In most cases, Clinical Waste bins are stored in a dedicated spaces and then transported to treatment centres, specially adapted HGVs carrying 40- 50 x 770 litre wheeled bins.
The merchant processing plants are often 70kms distant from the Hospitals they service. The risks associated with hazardous waste being spilled onto the Highways or for non compliant waste to be transported remains a problem for many hospitals and it can be a PR nightmare when things go wrong. Our on site Sterilwave solution, for treatment of EWC 180103 and EWC 180104 waste avoids this inefficient transport problem and reduces a clients CO2 footprint as a bonus. Using our combined shredding and microwave sterilisation, process to treat YOUR waste on YOUR site, and convert it into an EWC 191210 category waste (a Domestic RDF flock material) which is sterile and can be fed into existing EFW systems, is a great alternative and reflects the desire of all hospitals to treat their own waste on the own site. The volume of waste is greatly reduced (up to 85% by volume and up to 25% by weight), produces no liquid effluent, requires minimal handling and is totally safe for operators. This RDF flock can be placed into compactor units and moved weekly as a non hazardous waste in 15 tonne loads, as opposed to daily hazardous waste movements carrying just 1.3 tonnes of waste in 45 x 770 litre bins! Apart from the obvious safety aspects, it means you need less storage space for bins and they never leave your site. Bins also remain in good condition for longer as they are not being overused on the highways and in other hospitals.
